Located in a marine air corridor called the Van Duzer, Amity is the largest town in the Eola- Amity Hills region. Once an overlooked part of the Willamette Valley wine country, the Eola Hills were firmly put on the map in 2013 when Kendall Jackson Wines purchased hundreds of acres of premium Pinot Noir vineyard land in an area near Amity called Zena Crown.
This affirmation by one of the largest wine companies in the world confirmed what many, like the founders of Amity Vineyards, the Coelho family, and a handful of other pioneers already knew: the Eola Hills wine-growing region was a special place, and ripe for fame.
Almost as if the town of Amity knew the world was going to come knocking, civic leaders and government officials began a $2 million series of key infrastructure and curb appeal upgrades in 2012.
Inspired by the urban renewal and confident in the area’s winemakers, new entrepreneurs have been purchasing old buildings to create hip eateries and downtown tasting rooms like the Blue Goat, Uncle Jacks BBQ, and the Samuel Robert Tasting Room & Art Gallery. As a result, tourists to Willamette wine country are adding Amity to their list of must-do’s. Amity’s new livability and proximity to Salem have put pressure on the existing inventory of available houses, opening an area of opportunity for home builders.
Amity is a friendly, affordable place to live, has a strong school system and a very active civic community. Other long-standing businesses in the town are Weiser Designs, La-Vel Draperies, Blue Raeven Pies, and Eola Hills Miniature Donkeys.
